Scribble: Carried Away

19 Dec

This is the current novel idea that is nibbling at my mind. Originally this idea was of two separate novels, but neither novel alone had enough ideas/scenes to sustain it, so I combined the two. This is a short little excerpt of the main characters’ first meeting.

He placed the cloak on a rack by the fire, intending to keep his word about warming the material up. Turning back to the woman, he averted his eyes so as not to stare at her silver dress hugging every one of her curves. His gaze traveled toward the floor, and he blurted out, “Are you aware you only have one shoe?”

She sighed and wrapped her arms around herself. “Yes.”

“I shall find you a spare set,” he said, making himself busy by the closet at the other end of the room, “but I can already see that your feet are much smaller than mine. It’s hard not to be, of course, with my size–”

“What is your name?” she asked.

“I am Elond,” he said, returning to her side with a pair of boots. He glanced between the footwear and her feet, and mused how both of her feet could fit in one of his shoes.

She interrupted his thoughts by saying, “I am Ilana. Thank you for being so kind to me.”

…I just really like the shoe bit.
