Light Your Wands

14 Jan

Alan Rickman, beloved screen and theater actor, has passed away today at the age of 69 after his battle with cancer.

Not only was he an amazing actor, he had also directed and had a wonderful speaking and singing voice. His rise to fame was his portrayal of Hans Gruber in Die Hard and has never disappointed since.

Mr. Rickman’s most iconic role for my generation (and perhaps many others) was Professor Snape from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series. Rowling is a queen when it comes to creating her books, her vision, but it was Alan Rickman who brought the morally gray Severus Snape to life on the screen for the world.

Like Christopher Lee, Robin Williams, Leonard Nimoy, David Bowie, and many, many other actors and singers, Alan Rickman’s time with us has seemed too short. Although these greats may not be immortal, their memories will be.

Rest in peace, Mr. Rickman. You will be missed. Always.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go find my copy of Galaxy Quest.
