Series Spotlight – The Immortals

25 Jan

Do you remember what book series turned you into a bookworm?

I credit my bookwormness to Tamora Pierce’s “The Immortals” series. It’s a quartet– Pierce’s second quartet, actually — about a young woman with “wild magic,” magic that grants her the abilities to speak to animals, heal them, and take their shape. Daine is new to the country of Tortell, and it is there that she meets new friends that help her with her magic while getting entangled in the affairs of gods.

I remember being in my local Barnes and Noble when the teen section was right outside of the kids’ section. The second of the quartet, “Wolf Speaker,” was the cover that caught my eye, depicting a young woman sitting with wolves around her. Anyone who knows me knows of my love of animals, especially canines. It was on that trip that I remember getting the first two books in the series, and from then on, Tamora Pierce has been one of my favorite authors.

“The Immortals” was my first taste of fantasy, a love that has yet to grow old. I recently saw another¬†edition with gorgeous new cover art and it took all my willpower not to buy them again. Perhaps once I get a new bookshelf…

What was your first favorite series?

Agatha Christie. I collected her books from about age 8 til when I got them all in my early twenties. They take up several shelves in my library.
