As usual, on Saturday morning, Rachel and I went to our local Barnes and Noble for a writing session. Armed with her frappachino and my smoothie, we got down to work (with a break to poke and annoy each other once in a while) on our Camp NaNoWriMo projects.
Throughout this month on my Sunday Scribble posts, I’ve been posting little excerpts of my project. However, I’m fickle when it comes to my stories. About halfway through the month, I switched gears and started a completely different story. This new story is going much better than the other one I was attempting to write.
Rachel actually mentioned how fascinating it was that my mind is fickle like that. I have so many story ideas, but when it comes to focusing on one long enough to complete it, I can’t do it.
My first half of NaNo involves characters that have been bouncing around in my head for years. They each have several reincarnations with me trying to figure out the best fit for them. The new story, however, has brand new characters that are coming to life and are amazing to write about.
Perhaps I just needed a break from my first set of characters?
Have you ever had that? Needed to take a break from a story or a set of characters before?
