Libraries and Bookstores

05 Aug

I need to start going to the library more often.

Seriously, I work right across the street from the place. The library in my city is this gorgeous, older architectural building with old-school computers and everything. It’s nostalgic-inducing for someone my age (although, as I got older the children’s room seemed to have shrunk, which is probably just me).

I’ve always loved my nearest Barnes and Noble, of course, as well. It’s one of the biggest of the chains in the district, and I can spend a month’s paycheck there between the cafe, the DVD and music section, and the books (duh) no problem.

However, I’ve sadly realized that I’m running out of room for my newly bought books. My shelves look like Tetris with the way the books are arranged and I have a giant shopping bag of unread books still just chilling at the foot of the bookshelf. Once I get everything in order, I’m thinking it may be time to get a new library card (I had one as a kid, but only God knows where its ended up by now) and start making it work out.

Who knows, perhaps I’ll read more once I have books with a deadline to read them!

I can 100% relate. I used to love going to the library, a 12 book allowance always seemed too little, but when I became older, revived pocket money, and discovered Ottakar’s (now Waterstones) I was hooked. I now almost ignore the library (apart from when I need their disabled toilet) and instead speed up the street to Waterstones. However, both my pocket and over stuffed shelves are beginning to protest.

eh, it never helps me. Either I want to read it and read it now or it lingers on the back to the library shelf in my home until it’s time to return it.
