Harry Potter Dilemma

06 Sep

This past Saturday Rachel and I went to a friend’s house for dinner and to discuss the prospect of going to London, mainly to see The Cursed Child play.

I didn’t know what I was more excited for, seeing the play or traveling!

Well, we’re not going. At least, not anytime soon, and it’s extremely disappointing. For we quickly realized that tickets for The Cursed Child were all sold out.

All of them. Through the end of the show’s run. Through December 2017.

I’m positive people bought tickets to resell at jacked up prices, but we’re not going there.

So, yes, it’s very disappointing. We may still go on a trip somewhere, probably closer by, which will be fantastic.

But Harry Potter…!

This post is basically just to whine and ask if I should continue reading through the series — I’m going on the Goblet of Fire — or if I should pause the main series to devour the Cursed Child script. Any opinions?

Don’t read the Cursed Child before you finish The Deathly Hallows otherwise you will get so many spoilers! I really want to see the play too – gutted they’re sold out! If you can get to London on short notice, however, there is a scheme the play run called The Friday Forty, where at 1pm on a Friday forty tickets are released at low prices for the next week’s show! If you decide to do that, good luck! 😀 But yeah, finish the series before the play! Not only because of spoilers, but it’ll also help you to understand it better 🙂 Hope you enjoy!

Oh, I’ve already read the entire series before, but it’s been a while since I’ve reread them (that, and the only time I’ve read Deathly Hallows was when it first came out). I thought it’d be nice to refresh my memory, but I’m getting antsy for Cursed Child, haha!

We heard of the Friday Forty drawing, but considering there’s 5 of us who want to go, at least 3 of us would need to randomly win to buy the 1 or 2 tickets for the show. Thanks for the advice though! 🙂 I hope you get to see the play someday too!

I’d recommend reading Cursed Child now. Firstly, if you can remember the basics of the previous books, you should be fine – it doesn’t rely on tiny details. Secondly, while Cursed Child is a good read, and I guess it’s technically canon, it still feels like a distinct entity from the main series. Finishing my own re-read with Deathly Hallows felt satisfying; it felt like the “proper” ending even though Cursed Child takes place after that. So I didn’t feel like it would have been more satisfying to keep things strictly chronological. But maybe that’s just me.

Definitely an interesting perspective! I won’t feel like I’m cheating if I succumb to temptation before finishing the original series. 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

That would now be one of the top reasons to go to London! It was on our list along with the play, haha!

I went there last year, it’s so much better than you think it’s going to be.
