Author Quotes: J.R.R. Tolkien

30 Sep

Some of my top favorite quotes from J.R.R. Tolkien, famed writer and creator of Middle-Earth and The Lord of the Rings series. What are some of your favorites?

5. “Faithless is he who says farewell when the road darkens.”

4. “If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.”

3. “No half-heartedness and no worldly fear must turn us aside from following the light unflinchingly.”

2. “Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.”

1. “It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”

‘Some believe it is only great power that can hold evil in check. But that is not what I have found. It is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love.’

This entire speech right here, with the last line being my favorite, is one of my favorite things in the world. I don’t remember if it was in the books or only the movie, but it’s awesome either way.

Ohhh, yes! I can’t remember if some version was in the books, although I imagine it was.
