J.R.R. Tolkien was the brilliant creator of Middle Earth, and the Lord of the Rings fandom has never diminished. While Tolkien passed away in 1973, quite a few of his stories have been edited and published by his son Christopher Tolkien. The newest book is going to be about Beren and Lúthien, the legendary man and elf-maiden who would do anything for love.
Lord of the Rings fans know about the love between Aragorn and Arwen. Arwen gave up her elf immortality to stay with her love. Arwen was actually a descendant of Lúthien, and references how her choice is the same as her ancestor’s in choosing a mortal life.
While I’m not one for romance stories, this tale of Beren and Lúthien sounds as if it’ll be exciting with Beren’s quest to gain the approval of Lúthien’s father. Beren was sent on an impossible quest, the dangers, Lúthien’s immortality, and Lúthien’s father standing in the way of their relationship.
What makes this story even sweeter is that Tolkien has said that his wife Edith was the inspiration for Lúthien!
Because it’s Tolkien, I’ll definitely pick it up when the book is published next May.
