Actions and Words

14 Nov

What actions do your characters do too often? Any words that they overuse?

My NaNo characters appear to be very agreeable, since they’re always nodding to whoever happens to be talking. Biting lips and scratching the back of their heads sheepishly are a couple of other favorites.

They also use the word “suppose” a lot. At first it was part of the dialect (or so I told myself), but now they’re just “supposing” everything…. while nodding.

“Yes, I suppose this is good.” *nods*

With NaNo, the quantity is slightly more important than the quality, but when the time to edit comes around, I’ll definitely be sifting carefully through the story to find other ways to show off the characters’ emotions.

In other news, there are pirates in my story now. That’s cool.

Anyone else have interesting news or fun anecdotes about their stories or projects, NaNo or otherwise?

A lot of my characters seem to do a lot of the same actions. One of my characters is forever waving off whatever’s said to her. Others are copying her.

‘In other news, there are pirates in my story now’ Dang, I love how those pirates always show up. Happy writing, my friend.

I had planned to edit substantially a previous Nano endeavor. But as I dig in editing has translated into writing new scenes and adding a considerable amount to old scenes. I am easily making 2K a day on add ins. LOL
