So, Disney music is amazing.
Disney movies in general usually have those kind of, “Defeat all the odds!” “We can do this!” “I believe in you!” messages, and the music really reiterates the message. Even the villain songs, really — Be Prepared is about ambition for what you want, and Love is an Open Door takes on a new meaning when you realize Prince Hans true intentions, but for him it’s about getting what he wants. I’ve been listening to my favorite songs from the Moana soundtrack on a loop on Spotify for the past couple of days. Have you seen that movie yet? The animation and music are fantastic!
Yesterday I went and saw Disney on Ice with my older sister and our good friend who’s sister in all but blood. Poor Rachel has been sick all week, so she wasn’t able to go (but I got tons of pictures and videos on my phone for her, especially since the show all but encouraged people to share everything on social media). The show was called Dare to Dream, and showcased the Snow White, Cinderella, and Tangled (with little interludes by Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy, of course) stories.
Honestly, the music and the way the skaters glided across and around the rink, you forget they’re not dancing. The closing number, especially, had many of the princes and princesses come out to dance (including a couple of talented skaters stuck together in a Maximus, the horse from Tangled, costume!).
It’s a bit strange seeing the evolution of Disney movies and their characters throughout the years. There’s princesses like Snow White and Cinderella, who dreamed of different lives, and their wishes came true. Then there’s Rapunzel and, most recently, Moana, who chased after dreams and made them come true.
Those of us pursuing creativity need to do the same.
