July Camp NaNo

The next session of Camp NaNoWriMo is around the corner — a week from tomorrow, in fact!

I absolutely love it when the start of a NaNo session falls on the weekend. It really helps when getting ahead in word count! At the end of July the family and I will be going away, so I’m aiming to get my 50k words in before we leave.

I finally got placed in a cabin about a day or two ago after Rachel reminded me to do so about three times. I didn’t do it in time to get placed in a cabin with my sister (oops), but it should be interesting seeing how all the people in each of our cabins do. She’s upping her goal to 100k words instead of the normal 50k words like I am, and she got placed in a cabin with some other folks with similar goals. My cabin consists entirely of people trying to reach 50k.

I’m not sure what I’m doing for camp exactly. I claimed the genre of my project as “short stories,” figuring that I would at least get some Sunday Scribbles prepped with this session. It’s on par for how I write, anyway, haha!

Anyone else gearing up for Camp next month? What are your projects going to be about?

Goodbye to Camp

camp-2017-winner-twitter-header

Another Camp NaNo has come and gone. I made it to the end, writing double this past weekend due to a few skipped days, but it all worked out well. I quite liked Camp NaNo beginning and ending on weekends, and I wish that all NaNo sessions worked that way!

According to the Camp NaNoWriMo site, my official word count was 50,116 words. It was a Word document filled with random one-shots and scenes to add to a couple of half-finished novel ideas. The last couple of days, however, I did start up a new story with some new characters, and I rather like it. The first part I had put up as my Sunday Scribble yesterday.

Of course I would think of something new to write the last three days of NaNo, right?

Ah, well. I hope everyone else is doing well with their writing, or other creative, projects!

Catching Up

I really don’t have much to say today, except that I got behind by a day in my NaNoWriMo word count. I’m just thankful that NaNo ends this month during a weekend, so I have plenty of time to catch up!

I hope everyone else is doing well with their writing projects, or any creative projects, this month, be they Camp NaNo related or not!

(Hey, think I can add the words of my posts to my NaNo count? No? Okay, fine…)

Multiple Projects

Rachel saw my post from yesterday and said (not unkindly), “Oh, it’s another picture!”

I’ve thought the same many times, especially during this month.

While I genuinely like the pictures of advice and quotes that I find, and I hope that any readers do as well, I have fallen a bit behind when it comes to actually having written posts. It tends to happen during NaNo months where I’m more focused on my word count than preparing blog posts in advance.

I tend to do that with many things — I’ll focus on one project and forget about the rest for a while. I could definitely be better organized, give myself a small schedules and time frames to work on certain projects, but then I feel as if that stifles said projects. I don’t want to spend only a half hour sketching out a drawing before having to switch my mind’s gears over to reading. Perhaps I would do better with designated days, or pledge myself to spend a certain amount of hours each week, with free hours, on projects.

I just need more deadlines looming over my head, I think.

How do you deal with multiple projects?

Slumping Through

The second week of Camp NaNo is almost over… How are all of you doing with your projects?

I’m pretty much slumping through, keeping up with my word count at least, but not whizzing through my writing as I’ve done on the past few NaNo months. It may be due to the fact that I don’t have a solitary project to focus on. This month, I’m just adding words to random unfinished stories or just doing little one-shots. Usually I start off with a new project in the spirit of NaNo and, occasionally, take small breaks from it by doing the occasional one-shot before going back to the new project.

I do my best to stay motivated with some favorite music playing while writing or rereading old pieces that I had fun creating. What about you? What do you do to stay motivated through slower writing days?

Spelling Woes

refrigeratorcapture

When Rachel and I write in different rooms of the house, we tend to go on Skype and bother each other. It’s all in good fun, and works well when we’re both working on blog posts, especially for Double Jump.

A couple of days ago, we were talking while working on our Camp NaNo projects, and Rachel suddenly pings me with that little nugget about the word “refrigerator” and how it always looks wrong. As she had pointed out a few minutes later, refrigerator has the word fridge in it — shouldn’t it also have the letter d?

Later on, I mention how “activities” doesn’t look right, either.

There any words that you find yourself writing or using a lot that eventually look just wrong? No matter how many times you check your spelling and know it’s spelled correctly, but it still seems off?
