Homesick

Ever get that homesick feeling for a place that doesn’t exist? That pit of wonder nestled in your stomach for adventure or a new risk? I can just imagine that this is how Bilbo Baggins felt when thirteen dwarves and a wizard invaded his home to invite him on a quest to defeat a dragon.

I’ve just started rereading the Prisoner of Azkaban on my little journey to reread the Harry Potter series before diving into the Cursed Child. The Cursed Child is chilling on my bookshelf, waiting to be cracked open. Who knows, perhaps Rachel and I will read it together, each of us voicing certain characters as if we were on the London stage itself.

We may have the opportunity to go to London with a couple of good friends for the Cursed Child plays, probably next April during the school vacation. Rachel and I have never been out of the United States. In all honesty, the farthest we’ve been away from home is Disneyworld in Florida. Usually we hop a state or two away to a rented house by a lake. London will certainly be an amazing adventure if we’re able to do it.

Not only that, but yesterday Rachel and I were looking at homes, places from some “$50k and Under Places to Buy” list that I found while wandering the Internet. There was one property that was definitely a fixer-upper, but it had 6 bedrooms and we could just imagine what we would do with all that renovating space. A couple of offices here, a video game room there, an aquarium for Rachel in that room…

It made me homesick for a place I had never been. It’s a feeling I get once in a while after a really good reading session, but it’s leaked into reality, and all I can do is tack these on the “Things I’ll Do One Day” goal list.

We’ll see what happens.
