Multiple Projects

Rachel saw my post from yesterday and said (not unkindly), “Oh, it’s another picture!”

I’ve thought the same many times, especially during this month.

While I genuinely like the pictures of advice and quotes that I find, and I hope that any readers do as well, I have fallen a bit behind when it comes to actually having written posts. It tends to happen during NaNo months where I’m more focused on my word count than preparing blog posts in advance.

I tend to do that with many things — I’ll focus on one project and forget about the rest for a while. I could definitely be better organized, give myself a small schedules and time frames to work on certain projects, but then I feel as if that stifles said projects. I don’t want to spend only a half hour sketching out a drawing before having to switch my mind’s gears over to reading. Perhaps I would do better with designated days, or pledge myself to spend a certain amount of hours each week, with free hours, on projects.

I just need more deadlines looming over my head, I think.

How do you deal with multiple projects?

Fifty Thousand Words

I did it!

finalcount

I didn’t verify my win just yet (there’s a little badge that you can earn from updating your word count everyday) but, hey, I reached 50k a week early! Rachel and I have a couple of new video games (Pokemon Sun and Moon, actually) that we’ve sworn not to play until we reached 50k on our novels, and we wanted to be able to play the games during our holiday weekend. So, here we are!

My NaNo project isn’t done, and it doesn’t seem like it will be for a while yet. The characters are still tons of fun, but it honestly looks like I’ve just gotten into the main conflict of the story. A dragon shapeshifter just showed up, seemingly important to the plot. He’s very polite, actually, if a bit naive. He’s getting along quite well with my kitsune character.

I certainly hope everyone else is having good luck with their writing (or any kind of) projects!

Too Many Tabs Open

My writing brain is like a web browser with too many tabs open.

One of them tends to play some song that will inevitably get stuck in my head and I can’t figure out which tab it is…!

Rachel and I had made a pact to have the next draft of one of our manuscripts ready for the other to read through by October first. So far, we’ve been failing at that.

We did really well during the first week (at least half of it, anyway), working on our drafts for an hour each day, but then Rachel’s day job started up again and I’m driving our younger cousins in the morning to school (I don’t wake up that easily… I used to, but not anymore), and the draft just dissipated from our schedules.

I was really going to buckle down and try to get a move on with this novel, but then my brain was like, “HEY, what about this idea about modern magic instead? You should type it up and send it to the next writer’s group meeting! Or what about this one about dragons…?”

My writing projects are so sporadic.
