…2017, that is.
Happy new year, everyone! I certainly hope everybody had a safe and fun time ringing in the new year and kicking out the old. I spent most of my evening with Rachel and our parents holed up in the basement watching a couple of movies and playing games.
Considering most of the time, we’re all running around on our own schedules, it was really nice just chilling and hanging out with them.
We didn’t exactly stay up until midnight. Rather, around 11, both Mom and Dad were like, “Well, that’s late enough. Good night girls!” and I was ready to follow right behind them. Rachel thought we were all crazy. I did technically stay awake for midnight, though, since Rachel and I spent most of the last hour catching up on some YouTube videos from our favorite channels.
Early afternoon today, though, Rachel and I went to Barnes and Noble to see how much of our gift cards from Christmas we could spend. I got $25 while Rachel was generously received over $100 from various people! She was awesome and shared the gift cards with me (especially since I always try to remember to include her in my spending sprees!).
Besides a new planner for my blogs, I got Armada by Ernest Cline and Scratch: Writers, Money, and the Art of Making a Living edited by Manjula Martin. I had also picked up a book by Mark Cheverton set in the world of the popular game Minecraft, The Great Zombie Invasion. I’m a gamer as well as a writer, so I thought I’d give this book a try, even though it was from the Children’s section. Apparently it’s not the first series of the author’s protagonist, as I’m realizing while looking at it right now, but Cheverton did originally create these books to not only bring a game world to life but to also teach the dangers of online bullying, so I’m interested to see how he does that.
Buying new books is a great way to start a new year for me! What about you?
